The Role of Anabolic Androgenic Steroids in Disruption of the Physiological Function in Discrete Areas of the Central Nervous System
2017
: Anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS) abuse is often associated with a wide spectrum of adverse effects. These drugs are frequently abused by adolescents and athletes for esthetic purposes, as well as for improvement of their endurance and performances. In this literature review, we evaluated the correlation between AAS and anxiety or aggression. Two pathways are thought to be involved in AAS-induced behavioral disorders. Direct pathway via the amygdalo-fugal pathway, which connects the central nucleus of the amygdala to the brainstem, is involved in cognitive-emotive and homeostatic processes. The latter is modified by chronic AAS use, which subsequently leads to increased anxiety. Indirect…
Application of multivariate t-pattern analysis in the study of social interactions in rats
2013
A basic tenet in the realm of modern behavioral sciences is that behavior consists of patterns in time. For this reason, investigations of behavior deal with sequences that are not easily perceivable by the unaided observer. This problem calls for improved means of detection, data handling and analysis. This review focuses on the analysis of the temporal structure of behavior carried out by means of a multivariate approach known as T-pattern analysis. Using this technique, recurring sequences of behavioral events, usually hard to detect, can be unveiled and carefully described. T-pattern analysis has been successfully applied in the study of various aspects of human or animal behavior such …
T-Patterns in the study of movement disorders
2019
An intrinsic feature of behaviour orbits around its temporal dimension consisting of patterns in time: investigations on behaviour necessarily deal with sequences often impossible to be perceived by the human eye [Eibl-Eibesfeldt I. Ethology: the biology of behavior. New York: Holt, Rinehart and Winston. 1970]. Thus, the study of behavioural sequencing in terms of higher order arrangements, how the sequences are structured and, importantly, their analysis in normal subjects and in subjects affected by specific movement/behavioural disorders may represent a stimulating but challenging task. By means of T-Pattern analysis (TPA), it is possible to study these hidden features of behaviour and, …
Uzvedības traucējumi mazināšanas pedagoģiskās iespējas 4-5 gadus veciem bērniem mācību procesā
2018
Emotional–Behavioral Disorders in Healthy Siblings of Children with Neurodevelopmental Disorders
2020
Background and Objectives: Siblings of disabled children are more at risk of developing mental illnesses. More than 50 international studies show that about 8% of children and adolescents suffer from a mental disorder, which is almost always a source of difficulties both at the interpersonal level (in the family and with peers) and at school. Healthy siblings of children with disabilities are one of the groups most at risk for consequences in psychological health and well-being. As some authors suggest, siblings build their idea of &ldquo
T-pattern analysis for the study of temporal structure of animal and human behavior : a comprehensive review

T-patterns in the study of movement and behavioral disorders
2020
Aim of the present review is to offer an outline of the application of T-pattern analysis (TPA) in the study of neurological disorders characterized by anomalies of movement and, more in general, of behavior. TPA is a multivariate technique to detect real time patterns of behavior on the basis of statistically significant constraints among the events in sequence. TPA is particularly suitable to analyse the structure of behavior. The application of TPA to study movement and behavioral disorders is able to offer, with a high level of detail, hidden characteristics of behavior otherwise impossible to detect. For its intrinsic features, TPA is completely different not only from quantitative eva…
Mindfulness, rumination, and coping skills in young women with Eating Disorders: A comparative study with healthy controls
2019
Eating Disorders (ED) have been associated with dysfunctional coping strategies, such as rumination. Promoting alternative ways of experiencing mental events, based on a mindfulness approach, might be the clue for learning more effective coping and regulatory strategies among young women with ED. This study examined the comparison between patients with ED diagnosis and healthy subjects in mindfulness, rumination and effective coping. In addition, we analyzed the independent association of those with the presence of ED. The study sample was formed by two groups of young women ranged 13-21 years: Twenty-five with an ED diagnosis and 25 healthy subjects. They were assessed by using the Freibur…
